Giving to a good cause can be a very rewarding experience. Supporting the Laurel Packinghouse Heritage Fund is a way to provide improvement and advancement in the provision of heritage services that help tell our story and that give our community a stronger sense of itself. It is always a noble deed to help others in need. The Kelowna Museums Society is very grateful for every donor who lends his or her support. Tangible support by monetary gifts are a way to get results that benefit the project while providing immediate satisfaction to the donor and quite often a tax advantage to them as well. Following are some suggestions of how that might be done within the structure of the Kelowna Museums Society.
Contributions can be made by cheque, cash, credit card, or debit card in any amount. Tax receipts are issued for donations of $10.00 or more.
This can be arranged using a credit card and a commitment to contribute on a monthly basis over a future specified period. A receipt for accumulated contributions during the year will be issued shortly after the calendar year end.
A wonderful way to show you care. The amount of the gift is kept confidential; at your request an acknowledgement will be sent to the family without specifying the amount of the donation. A receipt is issued to the donor.
You may make a gift on behalf of a friend, colleaguge, or loved one as a way of recognizing a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary, retirement, or graduation. A receipt will be issued to the donor.
Some individuals find their investment in securities has made marked gains which, if cased out, will result in a tax burden to the individual. At the same time, they may wish to support the important work of the Laurel Packinghouse Heritage Fund. It is possible to escape the capital gains tax by contributing the security itself to the Fund. Persons interested in pursuing this avenue should consult a tax expert before moving ahead.
Some individuals hold life insurance policies, and the purposes for which they acquired them are no longer a priority. These can be turned over to the Laurel Packinghouse Heritage Fund as a gift and the donor can receive a tax receipt that could benefit them now. On the other hand, some individuals may be interested in making a major future contribution to the Fund and may choose to use a life insurance vehicle to accomplish this. When arranged properly, they can receive tax receipts for the premiums they pay. Individuals considering life insurance options should consult with a tax expert.
Some individuals may hold other assests which may have substantial value but are not needed by the individual. The Kelowna Museums Society can adapt tangible assests at a fair market value and provide a tax receipt to the individual. Tangible assests may include such items as land, buildings, and furniture which can be used by the Society. The Kelowna Museums Society maintains the right to accept only such tangible assests that have value to its work in the community. Fair market value may require an independent appraisal being performed.
